Sharpening services are currently only available for kitchen knives and turn around is 1 week.
Adding custom serrations are around 2 weeks
DLC is only done via batches at every few months (approximately 3-4 times a year). Next DLC batch TBD 1st quarter of 2027.

How does the mail-in knife service work?

PACK – Pack up your knives securely with a cork, tape, or something else to protect the tips from poking through the box. Make sure to include your name either on the shipping label.

By shipping your knife/knives in to us you agree to these terms.

REK’s Responsibilities
- - In-Shop Workmanship Error Cap: REK exercises due care with all items in our shop. Our maximum out-of-pocket liability for damage resulting strictly from shop work (sharpening, grinding, repair, coating, disassembly, or reassembly) is strictly capped at $700 per knife and $1,500 per package.
  - In-Shop Catastrophic Loss (Fire / Theft): For loss or damage to your item(s) resulting from fire, theft, or burglary while physically in our shop, REK assumes legal liability up to your Declared Market Value (covered under our commercial policy).
  - Transit Protection & Mandatory Inbound Signature: Coverage for lost or damaged packages during transit is governed by our Transit Protection terms up to your declared market value ($10,000 shipping limit per box), with REK paying the $500 policy deductible on approved claim payouts. Inbound packages MUST be shipped to REK with Signature Required; packages shipped without signature confirmation receive $0 payout under our commercial policy.
  - Customer Provided Labels: If you supply your own shipping label for the return shipment, you are responsible for filing any transit claims directly with your carrier or insurer.
Customer’s Responsibilities
- - Manufacturer Warranties: Custom modifications, regrinds, sharpening, or surface coatings performed by REK LLC will likely void OEM manufacturer warranties, and REK LLC is not responsible for voided warranties.
  - Assumption of Risk & Safety: You assume all risks of cuts or personal injury resulting from sharp edges, lock mechanisms, modifications, or finished work. This assumption of personal injury risk does not alter or expand REK’s liability limits for physical damage to the knife.
  - Inbound Signature & Coverage Activation: To activate transit protection for the inbound shipment, you must ship your package to REK LLC with Signature Required. If you choose to ship without signature confirmation (or select “No Coverage”), your inbound package receives $0 payout under our commercial insurance policy if lost or damaged in transit.
  - Proof of Market Value: In the event of an insurance claim, you agree to provide valid documentation establishing the fair market replacement value of your item(s) (e.g., original purchase receipt, maker invoice, or documented secondary market sales, etc).
    Claim payouts are determined by the insurer and are capped at the lesser of the proven market value or the declared value then in effect. The declared value is the number on the form, unless a later email to josh@rekknives.com is received before shipment. That email replaces the form number, and the fee is recalculated. A change after a loss does not count.
